Mom and Dad have been doing a lot of work in my room. It used to be a Pepto-Bismal pink room that they used for their office. Well, let me tell you…they're still going to work in there, but not paying bills, if you know what I mean.
So anyways, one day mom comes home and there’s a twelve inch channel cut in the plaster about six inches above the floor. Dad’s got dust EVERYwhere and he’s looking pretty frustrated - just another day at our house. Mommy and me roll our eyes and head back to the bedroom. This is Daddy’s deal and he needs to get it cleaned up now!
A few days later, things are looking better. Daddy has all the electrical pre-wiring done, the ceiling fan’s in and the wainscoting is starting to take shape. This past weekend the window guys showed up and took those old, drafty, leaky windows out and gave me some new ones that are much more efficient. So now, Daddy’s ready to cut loose and finish the room.
He installed beadboard wainscoting about five and half feet high all around my room. Then the carpet man showed up and put in a really nice off-white Berber carpet for me. Good and durable, yet still soft enough for me to play on. Mom and Dad started working on the trim next. They tried to mimic the 75-year old cherry-stained pine trim in the rest of the house and didn’t do too bad a job. At the top of the wainscoting, instead of cap-trim, Daddy put in a continuous shelf - about six inches deep. Now I have somewhere to store all my goodies, trinkets and trophies. And, if Mom will let me later…I’ll keep my pet rocks and frogs up there too. We’ll see.
To top it all off, Mommy painted the wainscoting a creamy yellow and they set up all the furniture. Not too bad an effort! Of course, after the glider chair went in, my big brother - Scuff the Wonder Kitty - gave his stamp of approval by promptly curling up and falling asleep on it. Yeah, Mommy and me are going to have to learn that cat about who the chair’s really for after I arrive. We’ll work on that one, though. |
